Mrs. Gage's commitment to youth stands out among her peers. Her commitment and substantial contribution to youth earns the respect of those youth, their parents, counselors and mentors. Her contributions are well-known in the community and across the country. She influences youth on a regular basis to reach for their dreams and achieve great things if they focus on the end result. She encourages them to avoid distractions of the here and now. Further, she implores them to decline the "fast and easy life" for the more stable and permanent through hardwork and dedication. They have often heard her say that "Anything worth having is worth working working for" sharing with them the value of what you earn versus what you are given.
She leads and influences by example, which she demonstrates through her adult rendition of "Simon Says." She emphasizes her points further by sharing her own personal experiences, which other adults often neglect.
Her commitment is unwavering and will continue to be the motivation behind her contribution to those youth who seek her. Not to mention, her gift of speaking and writing coupled her desire for them to excel demand that she continues to influence them.
"Often I am asked why do I do what I do is spite of what the youth do. My response is simple: I don't want them to repeat my mistakes without knowing that someone who made that mistake is willing to share her experience. My honesty usually influences them to change their decisions."
